Over the summer, CFW secured planning permission for the conversion of Abbey Mill in Winchester into a new facility for River Cottage.
The building was most recently used as offices but the plans approved will see it converted into a restaurant for 130 diners and a deli area selling high quality, locally sourced and seasonal produce.
The brickbuilt watermill has a Grade II listed classical portico and the mill stream still runs through it. It is hoped the stream will provide small scale hyrdo electric power for the building.
The conversion project aims to follow the ethos of River Cottage of sustainability which will include responsibly sourcing or recycling contruction materials, using low energy lighting as well as the hydro electric system.
CFW, working for Winchester City Council, are working in conjuction with Mackenzie Wheeler Architects who are acting for River Cottage.
