A new 1300m² brain injury unit has recently been completed at Oak Farm, Taverham on the outskirts of Norwich for Select Healthcare.
Supporting the existing clinic near by, the new unit houses patients in ten sheltered housing and five intensive care units that can double as sheltered housing.
As many patients will be wheelchair bound, the building is single storey throughout, allowing easy circulation and access to the outside. the unit also comprises of living and dining space, a therapy kitchen, clean/dirty utility and activity space.
The proportions have taken into consideration the surrounding residential properties while the internal courtyard offers natural light as well as privacy to both residents of the home and neighbouring properties.
